NewApt is a Win32 based worm. This worm affects Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT systems. This worm spreads through Outlook Express and Netscape Navigator by sending mails after downloading to users harddrive. Infected mail carries an attachment in different names, such as:

party.exe, goal.exe, farter.exe, cheeseburst.exe, cupid2.exe, panther.exe, theobbq.exe, g-zilla.exe, cooler3.exe, cooler1.exe, copier.exe, video.exe, pirate.exe, goal1.exe, hog.exe, saddam.exe, monica.exe, boss.exe, baby.exe, bboy.exe, fborfw.exe, casper.exe, irnglant.exe, or gadget.exe

The body of the message contains

Hypercool Happy Year 2000 funny programs and animations….

When this worm is executed it displays an error message and updates the windows registry, by this worm will be loaded on the next reboot.

This NewApt worm first appeared in December 1999.
