Information about the VBS/Spammer Worm:

VBS/Spammer is an email worm that is created using the VBScript. VBS/Spammer will infect Windows 98 and Windows 2000 systems. Windows 95 and Windows NT users also can be affected if the Visual Basic scripting is enabled.

The worm comes through an email attachment with the VBS extension. Opening the attachment launches the worm. It will send a message with the attachment to everyone in the address book. The subject will be "FW: filename" where the filename is the name of the file attached. The VBS extention will not be present in the subject. The worm increases its size by adding random comments to its code. Because of this, the size of the worm increases as it spreads. The name of the file attached is taken from the files present in the infected computer. The worm works with Microsoft Outlook.

The VBS/Spammer worm has a dangerous payload. It overwrites all files in all the directories and reduces their size to zero bytes. When the user starts the system the next time Windows may not start.

VBS/Spammer worm first appeared in May 2000.
